Juvenile Offenses

Growing up is all about enjoying new experiences, making minor mistakes and finding learning opportunities. Unfortunately, when mistakes involve criminal actions, criminal penalties often are the result.

Because the juvenile court system operates differently than the adult court system, it is important to have a defense attorney familiar with both. At Sherick & Bleier, PLLC, in Tucson, we represent young people facing criminal charges in Arizona. Contact our firm to discuss how we can help you.

Not All Childhood Mistakes Disappear At Age 18

Conviction for juvenile offenses is known as adjudication. More than a slap on the wrist, adjudication can have a lasting effect on juveniles regardless of age. Common juvenile offenses include:

  • Drug Possession and Other Drug Crimes
  • Underage Alcohol Consumption
  • Shoplifting and Theft
  • Drunk Driving
  • Assault
  • Sexting

Unfortunately, an adjudication does not disappear once a juvenile becomes 18 years old. Rather, repercussions can last 10 to 15 years beyond adjudication. For example, a drunk driving conviction will remain on a criminal and driving record beyond age 18, potentially impacting driving privileges, job opportunities and insurance rates.

Further, as laws governing juvenile offenses have become stricter. Many of those adjudicated of sex crimes may be required to register as sex offenders beyond the age of adulthood. In some situations, juveniles charged with certain crimes can be transferred to adult court.
